  1. Download the free “virtual microphone”

Go to existential.audio/blackhole and choose “BlackHole 2ch”. It asks for your email and sends you the download link.

This is a tiny, free, safe audio helper. It lets other apps hear Vaux as if it were a microphone.

  2. Install it

Open the downloaded file and click Continue until it finishes. Your Mac will ask for your password. That’s normal.

If it doesn’t show up later, restart your Mac once.

  3. Open Vaux Studio in Chrome

Sign in, click Studio, then click “Test sound”. You should hear a chime.

Use Chrome, Edge or Brave. Safari can’t send sound to other apps.

  4. Point Vaux at the virtual microphone

In Studio, find “Send voice to” on the right and choose “BlackHole 2ch”. Vaux usually picks it for you.

  5. Put on headphones and start

Click “Start session”, allow the microphone, and talk. Next, choose the app you’ll use below.

Don’t choose BlackHole as your Mac’s own speaker, or you’ll hear nothing.

2 · Where will you use it?

Zoom on Mac

Set Vaux as your Zoom microphone.

  1. Open Zoom’s audio settings

In Zoom, click your picture → Settings → Audio. (In a call: click the arrow next to the mic button.)

  2. Choose the virtual microphone

Set Microphone to “BlackHole 2ch”. Leave Speaker on your headphones.

  3. Turn off Zoom’s audio tweaks

Untick “Automatically adjust microphone volume” and set Background noise suppression to “Low”.
